Lead by Example

OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE TOURISM & THE ENVIRONMENT

Go South Adventures (GSA) has always been committed to sustainable tourism and our environmental conservation commitment extends to both at home and abroad. GSA has always kept to the common sense principles of reduced energy consumption, purchasing recycled products and recycling (waste paper and computer components). “Lead by Example” – Global warming is a reality that affects us all and GSA recognizes it’s responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint, offsetting the difference, and informing our clients as to how they may do the same. As we learn, so do our passengers.

COMMITMENT ABROAD

Sustainable Tourism Abroad – We want your adventure to be a mutually beneficial experience for you and the people and places you come in contact with. We emphasize using local accommodations, transportation and services whenever possible. It has been our experience that economies derived from localized, sustainable tourism encourage cultural preservation and ecological conservation.

Working together for Sustainable Travel

Go South Adventures and the Rainforest Alliance have established a partnership to promote tourism operations that are part of the Rainforest Alliance’s Best Management Practices in Sustainable Tourism Program. The Rainforest Alliance provides tourism entrepreneurs and community-based businesses in Latin America with the tools and training they need to become more environmentally and socially sound, and to gain access to and be more competitive in the marketplace, while contributing to the conservation of the local culture and nature.

Carbon Offset Programs

Carbon Offset Programs - Many programs are available to help you calculate your carbon contribution from air travel, driving your car and energy consumption at home. The carbon amount is assigned a dollar value, which you can pay to support carbon reduction programs like renewable energy, energy efficiency and reforestation projects. Go South Adventures is a proud participant in the CarbonFund.org program- which gives us, and our passengers, the ability to offset our air travel to our fascinating destinations. CarbonFund.org, their motto is: “Reduce what you can. Offset what you can’t”.

Pack it in – Pack it out

Pack it in, Pack it out

Camping Classic – While abroad on our trekking/camping adventures, we follow the time honored rule of “Pack it in – pack it out.” This is to insure that our refuse is properly disposed of and all we leave behind are footprints. We also camp only at officially designated areas or campsites.

COMMITMENT AT HOME

At Home – Go South Adventures actively engages in reducing our carbon footprint by supporting conservation technologies (wind power), recycling, strategic office location (walk or bike to business services), paperless communications and carbon offset participation. We passionately believe that these small, individual steps, taken collectively, can have huge positive effects for all of us.

Conservation Technologies

Wind PowerGSA purchases 100% of it’s electrical power from new, renewable energy projects via Seattle City Light’s – Green Up Program which enables customers to invest in a mix of renewable resources from new energy projects (Wind, Geothermal, etc…).

Recycling (Reduce & Reuse)

Reduce, Reuse, RecycleReducing the Waste Stream – all office paper waste, glass and metal is recycled via the City of Seattle Recycling Program
Recycled Paper – GSA purchases only post consumer recycled paper products for our office and mailings.

Environmentally Strategic Location

Walk & BikeWalking & Biking – in 2001 our Go South Adventures office was strategically chosen to be located in the established walking and biking community of Ballard. Within a matter of blocks, our office is close to public transport access, business services (banks, office supplies, copy center) and employee conveniences (shopping, cafes, restaurants, parks…).

Walk & Bike

GSA’s Big Bike Cruiser” – The bike supplies the style, we supply the power (plus it’s fun to ride…everyone wants to run errands). We use the Big Bike Cruiser to go to the bank, get office supplies and grab a bite to eat.

Internet and Email

Less is MoreContent, Pictures, and Communications – We embrace the internet as our preferred method of client contact and information delivery. With our Go South Adventures website, we are able to provide clients colorful, informative content with inspiring pictures and video. Email has revolutionized the ability to communicate instantly and respond quickly to clients requests and questions. Eliminating paper based advertising and correspondence is better for the environment, as it helps preserve more trees and natural resources, while also delivering timely up to date information to our passengers.
