Otavalo Market (1D)

On this private Otavalo Handicraft tour you will visit the most famous craft market on the continent, as well as two other lesser known markets (if time permits). Travel through the highlands of Ecuador to the world famous market in Otavalo. Bargain for colorful weavings, textiles and clothing with local Otavaleños in a valley located deep in the Andes Mountains. Meet a local family for a private weaving demonstration and see firsthand how this ancient art form is still crafted today. Stay in one of Ecuador’s charming haciendas. You will have the opportunity to visit small villages, meet expert leather craftsmen or discover one of Ecuador’s most beautiful lakes. This is an experience that is filled with Ecuadorian culture, history and amazing Andean scenery. In the morning we will transfer to the north to Imbabura province. On the way our first stop will be at Calderón Village, well known for its locally made bread dough figures. We then continue to the north passing through the valleys of Guayllabamba to visit the Otavalo market, one of the most famous Indian markets in South America. Lunch will be provided at one of the Haciendas in the area. In the afternoon we will visit Cotacachi, famous for its leather articles, and if time allows, we will end the day visiting Cuicocha lake, a volcanic crater lake surrounded by marvelous landscapes. Late afternoon return to Quito.
