Wow, its so calm…and quiet. Once again the Antarctic exceeds my expectations of freezing white and bitter cold. I have never been more enchanted by the many colors of gray (sky, rocks, water, whales). After a comprehensive briefing on kayak safety, most of us beginners, we were excited and a little nervous to brave these chilly waters. For us kayakers, Dorian Bay did not disappoint…

Everyone is very excited to do our 2 landings on solid ground today at Cuverville Island and Neko Harbour to see the Gentoo Penguin colonies. Penguins are both interesting and hilarious to watch.

My guide Daniela was exceptional at explaining everything from Tierra del Fuego flora and fauna in the area, to favorites bars & restaurants in Ushuaia. Antarctica – Part 1 – Tierra del Fuego – beyond the end of the world
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010Hola Travelers – Tierra del Fuego is an island that lies south of Chile/Argentina. After 27 hours of flying from Seattle, and 5 plane changes I was ecstatic when I saw that my bag had also arrived in Ushuaia (Argentina). Sure the flight was long, but the flight from Santiago to Punta Arenas, along the spine of the Andes was incredible – Mt. Fitzroy (Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina) is the peak in the photo with the patagonian ice fields. After all that flying it was time for a beer with my plane mate Ben, from Australia.
