The Plancius sailed calmly out of Ushuaia via the Beagle Channel. Soon after we began crossing the infamous “Drake Passage”. 2 Days of open seas, wind and big swells, where the Atlantic & Pacific converge with the Southern Ocean…hang on.

My guide Daniela was exceptional at explaining everything from Tierra del Fuego flora and fauna in the area, to favorites bars & restaurants in Ushuaia. Antarctica – Part 1 – Tierra del Fuego – beyond the end of the world
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010Hola Travelers – Tierra del Fuego is an island that lies south of Chile/Argentina. After 27 hours of flying from Seattle, and 5 plane changes I was ecstatic when I saw that my bag had also arrived in Ushuaia (Argentina). Sure the flight was long, but the flight from Santiago to Punta Arenas, along the spine of the Andes was incredible – Mt. Fitzroy (Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina) is the peak in the photo with the patagonian ice fields. After all that flying it was time for a beer with my plane mate Ben, from Australia.
